Mumbai Water Tanker Association Withdraws Strike After Meeting BMC Chief Bhushan Gagrani
Mumbai, April 14: The Mumbai Water Tankers Association (MWTA) has called off its strike after a meeting with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Administrator Bhushan Gagrani on Monday (April 14).
Rajesh Thakur, the General Secretary of MWTA, confirmed that the strike has been withdrawn and water supply from tankers has resumed immediately.
The MWTA had gone on strike on April 10 (Thursday) to protest against notices issued to borewell and ring-well owners. The notices asked them to follow 2020 guidelines from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA). The association was demanding that these notices be cancelled, not just delayed or paused.
During the strike, tanker water supply was stopped for four days, affecting thousands of residents in Mumbai. Tankers supply water to slums, high-end apartments, commercial buildings, hospitals, and construction sites. The MWTA operates about 3,000 tankers and supplies around 300 million litres of water daily.
