Petrol pump employee shot dead in Amritsar’s Majitha
Three armed men allegedly shot dead a petrol pump employee and injured another at Kaler Mangat village in Amritsar’s Majitha on Sunday night.
While the police claimed it was a robbery bid, SAD leader Bikram Majithia called it an attempt to target Jodh Singh Samra, a SAD leader, who owns the petrol pump.
The police have registered a case and said they had received vital clues and a manhunt had been launched to arrest the culprits.
The deceased was identified as Gautam Kumar, a migrant from UP. The injured, Amit, was admitted to a hospital at Vallah.
Gautam took a bullet in the chest and the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Amit took a bullet in the face and is said to be serious.
Tejinder Singh, co-owner of the petrol pump, said he runs Bharat filling station in the village. He said he had employed three men — Gautam, Amit and Arpan. He said he was going to the petrol pump carrying food for the three men at around 8.30 pm. The pump had been closed for the day and a car stopped near the pump. Three men with covered faces shouted that it was Samra’s petrol pump and they wanted petrol for the bike, he added.
He said his employees did not entertain them, following which they fired at the staff. He said they raised an alarm but the accused fled the scene.
Amritsar rural SSP Maninder Singh said six teams had been formed to arrest the accused.
