Delhi Capitals' unbeaten streak ends as Mumbai Indians emerge triumphant in high-scoring thriller

In what was the venue's first match of IPL 2025, the Capitals suffered a 12-run loss as their winning run of four games came to an end. Axar Patel, who had won the toss, put the five-time champions into bat, and the visitors amassed 205/5 in their 20 overs. Tilak Varma top-scored with 59, while Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Naman Dhir (38*) made good contributions.

In reply, Deepak Chahar dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk in the very first ball of the innings. However, a fiery Karun Nair kept the Capitals in the chase for a long while before departing for a 40-ball 89. Nevertheless, the home side's lower-order batters didn't quite step up on this occasion.

Having fallen short only 12 runs in the end, Axar felt their top-order batters need to do more in the upcoming matches as the lower-order cannot always bail them out. Having said that, the southpaw feels it's futile to ponder much on the defeat, given the difference was only 12. He said in the post-game presentation:

"We had the game. I think we had soft dismissals from the middle order, some bad shots. We lost by 12 runs with an over to go so we could have still won it. It can't happen that your lower order batters will always come save you in chases. There are some odd days where you play wrong shots, so I don't think there is any point in thinking too much about it. I thought 205 was a great target because it was a good pitch and dew was also coming. Maybe if we had caught better, we'd have kept them to lower."
