Daayra: Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kareena Kapoor to star in Meghna Gulzar's next backed by team behind 'Talvar' and 'Raazi'

Prithviraj Sukumaran is returning to Hindi cinema again. The Malayalam superstar has announced that he is collaborating with filmmaker Meghna Gulzar (Raazi, Talvar) for a film titled Daayra, in which Kareena Kapoor has been cast as the female lead.

 

Sharing the update on his social media handles, Prithviraj wrote: "Some stories stay with you from the moment you hear them. DAAYRA is that for me. Excited to work with Meghna Gulzar, the incredible Kareena Kapoor Khan and Junglee Pictures! Wish you all a very happy Vishu!"

 

 

According to a report in Filmfare, "Daayra taps into the pulse of the people as it confronts the topical and diabolical realities unfolding in society today. This crime-drama thriller explores the age-old paradox of crime, punishment, and justice with powerhouse actors Kareena Kapoor and Sukumaran in intense, commanding roles."

 

Prithviraj, who is stepping in front of the camera again after the blockbuster success of his third directorial, the Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan, said in a statement that he was bowled over by the script narration. "I was thoroughly absorbed by my character and what he brings to the table as the story progresses.. It is layered and will definitely connect with the masses. Working with Meghna Gulzar's vision, Junglee Pictures and an actor like Kareena Kapoor will be a great collaborative experience. Daayra is a story that is one of a kind and digs deep into the societal norms,  world of crime and punishment that unfolds."

 

 

Daayra sees Meghna Gulzar reuniting with Junglee Pictures, that production company that backed Talvar and Raazi. "Daayra is a story that compels you to reflect on the society we live in and its institutions that pilot us," said Gulzar in her statement. "With co-writers Sima and Yash, unravelling the greys within the black and white was both challenging and exciting. And as Kareena and Prithviraj bring the lead characters to life, the narrative dynamics are all set to elevate further! It’s always creatively gratifying to collaborate with Junglee Pictures, known for backing stories that are compelling and demand telling.”

 

The film, which has a script by Meghna, Yash and Sima, is currently in the pre-production phase.
