New PRT Train: Preparations to run PRT rail from New Film City to Jewar Airport, 14.6 KM track to be built

There are plans to run a Public Rapid Transit (PRT) from the new Film City located in Sector-21 in the Yamuna Authority area to the Noida International Airport. In the first phase, only a 14.6 km track will be built for this.

New PRT Train: There are plans to run Public Rapid Transit (PRT) from the new Film City located in Sector-21 in Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area to Noida International Airport. In the first phase, only 14.6 km track will be built for this, whether this track will be elevated or on the surface will be decided after the government approves the DPR. At present, Siemens Company has prepared the feasibility report.

An authority official said that there was a plan to run pod taxis on the new 14.6 km route for direct and easy connectivity from Film City to the airport, but even after issuing a global tender, companies did not show interest in the project as per the standards. After this, an agreement was reached to run Namo Bharat Train and Metro along with Light Rail Transit (LRT) on the 72.4 km long elevated track to be built from Ghaziabad to the airport. Its DPR was prepared and sent to the Uttar Pradesh government and later to the Central Government, but the Central Government rejected the proposal to run LRT on the same track along with Namo Bharat and Metro and returned the DPR.

Now preparations are being made to run PRT once again. To run PRT on the new route, the authority gave the responsibility of exploring the possibility to Siemens Company. The company has now prepared its feasibility report. At the same time, the feasibility report has also been prepared by London-based company Ultra PRT Limited. Now the officials will brainstorm on this and it will be placed before the Public Private Partnership Build Evaluation Committee constituted at the government level. The final decision will be taken through the committee only.

Will run till Agra in the third phase: There is a plan to run the light rail from Film City to Jewar Airport in the first phase, while in the second phase, a plan has also been prepared to run it from Jewar to Vrindavan and in the third phase from Vrindavan to New Agra.

This will provide connectivity to the airport to Agra, however, the decision on how feasible this is can be taken only after the committee and the DPR are prepared. At present, only the work of exploring possibilities is going on for this. Officials have claimed that light train is more effective than pod taxi. Currently, pod taxis are manufactured by companies of only a few countries.

These run at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. On the other hand, if we talk about light train, then 100 companies in the world make it. Along with being low cost, these run at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Yamuna Vikas Pradhikaran is also preparing to build India International Center and Habitat Center in Sector-9.

This is PRT

This is a low speed public transport for use in internal transport in the city, which has two-three bogies. It runs at almost the speed of a pod taxi or a little more than that. It is a kind of battery-operated urban light transport system. A pod taxi has only one bogie, it has two-three bogies. This transport is considered very convenient for local transport. Currently, PRT with a capacity of 9 million passengers per year is being operated in London. This public transport has not yet started in any city in India.

Arunvir Singh, CEO, Yamuna Authority said, “There is a plan to run PRT on a separate route of 14.6 km from Film City to the airport, a feasibility report has been prepared on its possibility. Its work will move forward after brainstorming at the government level.”
