New Delhi: India’s 30-kilowatt laser weapon has demonstrated the capability to destroy aircraft, missiles, and drones. This is seen as a major development that promises to boost the country’s defense technology. The 30-kilowatt laser weapon was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and is now ready for use by the armed forces. With this achievement, India has joined a select group of countries like the United States, China, and Russia.
DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat said, “This is just the beginning. Our lab, in collaboration with other labs, industries, and academic institutions, has achieved this success. We will soon reach our target. We are also working on other weapons like high-energy microwaves and electromagnetic pulses. These will give us power similar to Star Wars.” He added that after the US, Russia, and China, India is the fourth or fifth country to demonstrate such capabilities.
30-kilowatt laser weapon: Here are some of the key features

The weapon will further strengthen India’s defense on both land and sea. Its design is so flexible that it can be adapted for various military needs. DRDO is not limited to just 30-kilowatt weapons. It is also developing the 300-kilowatt ‘Surya’ laser weapon, which can destroy high-speed missiles and drones up to a distance of 20 kilometers. This weapon will further strengthen India in modern warfare. These efforts align with global trends in missile defense and anti-drone technologies.
