2 held after exchange of fire in Kurukshetra
The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra police arrested two miscreants after a brief exchange of fire in Shahabad on Saturday night. The accused have been identified as Yamunanagar residents Rahul Verma and Imran Khan, alias Taliban.
They sustained bullet injuries in their legs, and were taken to the Shahabad CHC, from where they were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Parkash District Civil Hospital, Kurukshetra, for treatment.The police recovered two country-made weapons and three live cartridges from their possession. The duo had provided firearms and a two-wheeler to the accused involved in a recent firing incident at an IELTS centre in Shahabad, in which a man suffered a bullet injury. CIA-2 In-charge Mohan Lal said, “Two youngsters on Thursday opened fire at an IELTS centre in Shahabad, and one person was injured in the incident. The injured person is undergoing treatment. Superintendent of Police Varun Singla had formed teams to arrest the accused. The teams were checking CCTV camera footage and scanning mobile dump data to trace the accused. A team of CIA-2 unit was on patrolling duty in the Shahabad area last night, and received information regarding two youths with their faces covered roaming on a two-wheeler. They were carrying firearms.”
“Following this, the team spotted two youngsters near Rawa village. After seeing the police team, the accused started firing, and, in response, the police team also opened fire, causing both the accused to sustain bullet injuries on their legs. The accused had opened five-six rounds of fire at the cops,” he added.
The CIA-2 in-charge said, “The accused are undergoing treatment. During preliminary questioning, the youngsters disclosed that they had provided the two-wheeler and weapons used in the firing at the IELTS centre. They had given a bag containing the weapons to the shooters. They were also present near the centre during the firing incident. After the firing, the accused fled the spot after handing over the weapons and the two-wheeler back to Rahul and Imran. Even last night, the duo was planning to carry out some incident.” As per the Kurukshetra police, both the arrested persons have a criminal background, and have gone to jail in the past. All information regarding the cases registered against them is being obtained. Further investigation is on and, during the police remand, the police would get information about their links, targets and people involved with them in criminal activities, cops said. This is the second incident in the last three days in which miscreants were arrested by the police after an exchange of fire.
On Thursday night, Abhijot, alias Abhi, a resident of Kurukshetra, and Sonu, a resident of Patiala, Punjab were arrested by the police. They were allegedly involved in extortion cases. They are on a nine-day police remand.
