Delhi to become health tourism hub: CM Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the government plans to transform the city into a “global health tourism hub.”

Addressing an event to celebrate the 70th Foundation Day of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Gupta said, “We aim to make Delhi a global destination for medical treatment.” She emphasised promoting health tourism would not only enhance medical services in the capital but also boost the overall economic ecosystem.

Gupta revealed the new BJP government in Delhi plans to build 24 new hospitals and add more than 16,000 new beds. In addition, 400 health and wellness centres, known as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, will be set up across the city.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to providing timely, accessible and quality healthcare services to every resident of Delhi. “A healthy Delhi is the foundation of a self-reliant India,” she remarked.

Gupta also highlighted the government’s budget allocation of Rs 12,893 crore for healthcare services this year, with Rs 2,144 crore earmarked for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

The Chief Minister also criticised the previous AAP government for neglecting the health sector, recalling how many lives were lost during the pandemic due to a lack of timely treatment.
