Sukhu flags off teachers’ delegation to Singapore

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday flagged off a delegation of 70 teachers on an educational tour to Singapore, under a government initiative aimed at providing global exposure and advanced training to educators from the state.

Speaking at the send-off ceremony, the CM said the state government had taken historic steps to strengthen and modernise the education sector. “Travel broadens knowledge and enhances experience,” he remarked, adding that such initiatives would play a key role in transforming Himachal Pradesh into a model state for quality education.

The government has signed an agreement with the renowned Principals Academy in Singapore to provide world-class training to Himachali teachers. This initiative, Sukhu said, is expected to sharpen the knowledge, skills and teaching methodologies of educators, directly benefiting students and reshaping the education system into a more inclusive, effective and modern framework.

“My government is committed to bringing continuous and positive change in the education sector. By 2032, Himachal will become the best state in the country in terms of providing quality education,” he asserted.

Sukhu highlighted that the reforms introduced over the past two years are already showing promising results. Citing the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) released in January 2025, he noted that children from Himachal Pradesh demonstrated the highest reading proficiency in the country. “On various educational parameters, the state has emerged as a top performer. State-level surveys also reflect significant improvements in student learning levels,” he said.

He emphasised the need to revise school curricula and proposed the inclusion of general knowledge as a subject to ensure holistic development. “The state will soon adopt a new education policy that supports well-rounded growth for students. Along with administrative reforms, we are also making innovative efforts, including streamlining the transfer process, to enhance the overall quality of education,” he added.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, who was also present, said so far, 267 teachers had already been sent to Singapore under the initiative, and the programme would continue in the future. He stressed that this was not an ordinary trip but a visionary step toward transforming the education system. “High-quality training will bring about fundamental improvements in the teaching-learning process,” he said.

Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar briefed the CM and dignitaries on the importance of the Singapore tour and other key educational initiatives. State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Rajesh Sharma, also shared insights into the innovations being carried out under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
