Shimla, Kangra emerge as most accident-prone dists
Shimla and Kangra have emerged as the most accident-prone districts in the state. The highest number of accidents have taken place in the two districts over the past three years.
As per the Himachal Pradesh Police, Shimla has recorded a total of 975 road accidents in the past three years, making it the district recording the highest number of mishaps in the state. The data reveals that about 355 road accidents had taken place in the district in 2022, 300 in 2023 and 320 in 2024.
Similarly, 944 road accidents have taken place in Kangra district in the past three years, the second highest in the state. However, Kangra has also witnessed a sharp decline in the total number of accidents. Out of 944 accidents reported in the past three years in Kangra, 423 were recorded in 2022, 295 in 2023 and 226 in 2024.
Also, Mandi district has recorded 880 road accidents in the past three years (324 in 2022, 284 in 2023 and 272 in 2024). Sirmaur district has recorded 660 road accidents (267 in 2022, 207 in 2023 and 186 in 2024) while Una has recorded 634 accidents (235 in 2022, 179 in 2023 and 220 in 2024). Solan has recorded 547 accidents (178 in 2022, 180 in 2023 and 189 in 2024), while Kullu district has reported 524 accidents (218 in 2022, 144 in 2023 and 162 in 2024). Bilaspur has recorded 467 accidents (171 in 2022, 155 in 2023 and 141 in 2024), Hamirpur 286 accidents (109 in 2022, 93 in 2023), Chamba 272 accidents (98 in 2022, 95 in 2023 and 79 in 2024), Kinnaur district has reported 121 road accidents (37 in 2022, 50 in 2023 and 34 in 2024).
Besides, 461 road accidents have been recorded in Baddi-Barotiwala and Nalagarh (BBN) area (151 in 2022, 168 in 2023 and 142 in 2024) while Nurpur police district reported 169 accidents (87 in 2023 and 82 in 2024). The lowest number of 66 road accidents (26 in 2022, 18 in 2023 and 22 in 2024) in the past three years have been reported in Lahaul and Spiti district.
Overall, road accidents in the state have declined in the past three years. In 2022, Himachal had recorded 2,592 road accidents and this number declined to 2,255 in 2023 and to 2159 in 2024.
