Haryana govt puts on hold sending PGIMS doctors to Bhiwani for PM’s visit

The decision to send faculty members-cum-consultants from Pt BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, to Pt Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College, Bhiwani, on deputation has been put on hold till further orders.

This means PGIMS doctors will not be required to report to Bhiwani as of now. Confirming the development, PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal informed The Tribune over the phone that the earlier order had been stayed. “The decision to depute the faculty members-cum-consultants to Government Medical College at Bhiwani has been put on hold, and the doctors will not have to visit Bhiwani now,” he said.

A communique issued by the PGIMS administration and shared by Dr Singhal reads: “This is in reference to this office order issued vide letter no. ME 1/A V/2025/4161-87 dt 9.4.2025, vide which faculty was deputed to visit GMC Bhiwani from 10.4.2025. Faculty visited Bhiwani on April 10 and 11. But now it is to intimate you that faculty visit of selected departments to Bhiwani is kept on hold with effect from April 12 as was already informed to them verbally, till further orders.”

The move follows a The Tribune report published on April 12, which highlighted how patient care at Rohtak PGIMS had been hit due to the deputation of doctors to Bhiwani ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit for the inauguration of the new medical college on April 14.

Earlier, acting on directions from the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Haryana, PGIMS had issued orders for nearly 40 faculty members and consultants from various departments to be sent to Bhiwani to assist in the inspection and installation of medical equipment.

While several doctors had already reported in Bhiwani on April 10 and 11, others were directed to reach on April 14 — the day of the inauguration. Following The Tribune report and mounting concerns over strained services at PGIMS, the order was officially put on hold.
