'Just A Prank': OP Jindal University Issues Statement On Viral Video Of Girl Packed In Suitcase
The OP Jindal University on Sunday issued a statement on the viral video from its campus where a girl was seen emerging out of a suitcase which was being carted around in a hostel.
The Sonipat-based university said that it was just a "prank" being played "within the girls' hostel" by some students. However, the private university also said that they have taken the matter seriously and sent a show cause notice to the students involved.
"This incident involved a group of students playing a prank within the girls' hostel, which unfortunately escalated to a public area where security intervened," the spokesperson said.
The students have been asked to appear before the disciplinary commmitte, said the university spokesperson on Sunday. "We have taken effective and immediate action in this matter," the spokesperson said, adding that the safety and security of students are paramount, reported PTI.
Security Guards Noticed Suspicious Activity
The video clip from the university which sparked much chatter on social media showed two female security personnel opening the suitcase and the girl coming out of it. The video went viral on social media fueling all sorts of theories.
A group of girls was carting the suitcase with the girl inside it and took her outside to the grounds and upstairs, the spokesperson said. They moved with the suitcase to a public area inside the girls hostel common corridor which is under CCTV coverge.
It was here when the security guards noticed suspicious activity around the suitcase, he said, adding that the varsity has taken effective and immediate action in the incident.
"All students involved have been issued showcause notices and will face the disciplinary committee," said the spokesperson.
