Schools, Banks To Remain Closed On Monday In Delhi? Here's What LG Order Says For Ambedkar Jayanti

Schools, banks, and offices will remain closed on Monday in the national capital as Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has declared April 14 a public holiday.

The Delhi LG has declared Monday a public holiday to mark Ambedkar Jayanti, the birth anniversary of BR Amnedkar. The day honours the legcy of the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a stalwart in the country's social reform movement. 

A notice was issued by the General Administration Department of Delhi on Thursday announcing April 14 will be a public holiday. All government departments, autonomous bodies and public sector undertaking will remained closed on that day in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, the notice stated, reported The Hindustan Times. 

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on April 14 every year with a state holiday. 

Schools To Remain Closed 

All the schools, both government and private will remain closed on April 14. Schools are expected to resume normal academic schedules from the next day, April 15. 

Will Banks Be Closed?

Most of the public and private sector banks in the national capital are expected to observe the holiday. While the bank buildings will be shut on Monday for business, customers will be able to use the digital services including  ATMs, Internet banking, and mobile banking, in line with previous public holidays.

Will Offices Also Be Closed?

The public holiday will be observed by all government offices, and hence will remain shut on Monday. However, private businesses and corporate offices do not have a legal obligation to observe the public holiday. Some businesses may remain closed for private reasons. 

Essential Services 

Other essential services likehealthcare, ration depots, pharmacies, and general stores will operate as usual. Although, many hospitals across the national capital are expected to suspend their outpatient departments on April 14. It is advisable to check with the individual hospital before planning a consultation.
