Teacher’s inappropriate remark at girl student sparks row at Gidderbaha school

A teacher allegedly made an inappropriate remark at a girl student of Class V at a prominent private school in Gidderbaha earlier this week, triggering a controversy.

Sources said the teacher’s “objectionable and insensitive" comment at the student in the classroom left her disturbed. The matter quickly gained attention after the student’s parents raised the issue with the school management, demanding strict action and an apology.

The student’s father complained to the District Education Officer (DEO) and District Welfare Officer (DWO), seeking action in this regard.

Thereafter, the DEO sought an explanation from the school management. In response, the school convened an emergency meeting and issued a formal apology, expressing regret and admitting that the remark was uncalled for.

The situation has since de-escalated, though parents continue to call for greater sensitivity from teachers.

Sources said the family had pulled out their child from the school after the incident.

Speaking over the phone today, Jaspal Monga, District Education Officer (DEO), Muktsar, said, “I called the school principal and the teacher to my office and they have submitted a written apology. We have already issued directions to all schools to deal politely with students and their parents.”

Jagmohan Singh, District Welfare Officer (DWO), Muktsar, said he has called the teacher and the principal to his office on Tuesday.
