Mohammed Shami makes UNWANTED record, registers MOST expensive bowling figures by an Indian in IPL history
New Delhi: During an IPL 2025 match, Indian bowler Mohammed Shami, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, conceded a record-breaking 75 runs in his four overs. This is the most expensive bowling performance ever recorded by an Indian player in IPL history, contributing to Punjab Kings’ substantial total of 245/6.
Mohammed Shami’s bowling performance, while expensive, narrowly avoided becoming the second most costly in IPL history, conceding only one run less than Jofra Archer’s record of 0/76. His opening over was particularly challenging, as he conceded 14 runs, including three consecutive boundaries to Prabhsimran Singh.
Mohammed Shami’s second over was expensive, yielding 23 runs, including consecutive sixes and a four from Priyansh Arya, and another six from Prabhsimran Singh. His 13th over also proved costly, giving up 11 runs with boundaries conceded to Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera.
Marcus Stoinis’s aggressive batting in the final over completely undermined Mohammed Shami’s bowling performance. Stoinis hit four consecutive sixes, significantly boosting Punjab’s score beyond 240 and ending Shami’s unsuccessful spell on a particularly disappointing note.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack, led by Shami’s performance and supported by Harshal Patel (4 for 42) and Eshan Malinga’s debut (2 for 45), restricted Punjab Kings. However, Shreyas Iyer’s impressive 82 runs off 36 balls, including twelve boundaries (six fours and six sixes), fueled Punjab Kings’ batting effort.
Priyansh Arya (36 runs from 13 balls), Prabhsimran Singh (42 runs from 23 balls), Nehal Wadhera (27 runs from 22 balls), and Marcus Stoinis (34 not out from 11 balls) provided strong support, contributing significantly to Punjab Kings’ aggressive batting performance.
