Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan remains one of the most iconic television shows till date, having shattered viewership records when it first aired in 1987. The show’s cast including Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia garnered massive fan following. Actor Aslam Khan, who portrayed 11 characters in the show, also rose to fame. However, despite portraying most number of characters in Ramayan, the actor didn’t get any work in the industry and decided to quit acting in 2002.
In an interview with Naarad TV, Aslam revealed that he was never keen to be an actor and was introduced to this profession by his friend, while he was searching for a job in the private sector. His first appearance was on a show called Vikram and Vetaal at the time.
The character of Samudra Dev which he portrayed in Ramayana came to him unexpectedly. The person who was originally confirmed for the role backed out last moment and as a backup, he was finalised to deliver the lines on-screen. As it turned out, his role garnered immense love and popularity from the audience.
After Ramayan, Aslam portrayed key roles in famous shows like Alif Laila, Shri Krishna, Suryaputra Karn, Mashaal, and Hawayein. Despite being a name in the television world, the actor failed to grab more opportunities and decided to quit acting in 2002. According to reports, Aslam is current leading in a marketing firm situated in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and has a son and a daughter who are all grown up.
Aslam garnered huge attention on social media during the lockdown when his show Ramayan was re-telecast. Memes flooded on social media, and people cracked jokes about the fact that he portrayed so many roles in the hugely popular show.
