Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Evidence Reveals Accused Shariful As Bangladeshi National
Mumbai: Mohammad Shariful Islam Fakir, 30, who allegedly attacked actor Saif Ali Khan, has been identified as a Bangladeshi national.
Key Details Revealed
The chargesheet reveals that he possessed a Bangladeshi voter ID card, was involved in a theft case in West Bengal, and had illegally transferred money to Bangladesh. These details came to light through a chargesheet spanning over 1,600 pages, which the Bandra police submitted to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bandra on Tuesday.
According to the chargesheet, after his arrest, Shariful’s mobile phone was seized the next day, and his connection to Bangladesh was uncovered. On his mobile, the police found a copy of his Bangladeshi citizenship certificate, a character certificate, and the bKash app — the largest mobile financial service provider in Bangladesh. It is widely used for sending and receiving money. The phone also contained screenshots of transactions showing he had sent money to his relatives and friends in Bangladesh.
He reportedly sent money through a man named Abdulla, who resides in Kolkata. He transferred the funds under the alias Vijay Das to a person named Abdul Alim. Shariful’s supervisor, Amit Pandey, 46, gave a statement confirming that they paid him Rs 1,000 in cash. Shariful told Pandey that he sent the money to Abdul, who was his sister’s husband. Abdul’s account was in a private Bank, MG Road branch, Bangalore. The police obtained Alim’s account statement from the bank and allegedly found that Indian currency was being illegally transferred out of the country through that account. Consequently, the police froze the account by placing it under a ‘debit freeze’.
The police also recovered a Bangladeshi voter ID and other documents in Bengali. The investigation identified the accused’s full name as Mohammad Shariful Sajjad Ruhul Amin Fakir, 30, from Rajabaria village, Jhalokati district, Barisal state, Bangladesh. Moreover, a selfie with a woman was found on his mobile phone. The police sent his phone and screenshots of his Facebook profile to the Forensic Laboratory in Kalina. However, they have not yet received the report.
Hafijul Shaikh, 52, who has lived in West Bengal for 50 years, is a relative of Shariful. He stated that Shariful is the son of his cousin sister. In his statement, he mentioned that in July 2024, Shariful suddenly arrived at his home, seeking to stay there. He stayed for only a day, but allegedly stole money from Shaikh’s house. As a result, Shaikh asked him to leave. After that, Shariful went somewhere in India, but Shaikh did not know the exact location. He confirmed that Shariful is a Bangladeshi citizen.
Kukomani Shaikh, 32, a widow residing in West Bengal, also gave a statement. She said her mobile phone was stolen in July 2024 while she was at a government hospital. Her SIM card remained active, and when she called her number from a friend’s phone, Shariful answered. She asked him to return her mobile. She claimed that although he never revealed his real name to her, he did admit that he was a Bangladeshi citizen.
Based on this evidence, the police established that Shariful is a Bangladeshi national. The police booked him under the Foreigners Act of 1946 and the Foreigners’ Order of 1948 for illegal entry into India.
