In response to ongoing violence in Murshidabad and other parts of West Bengal, security has been significantly ramped up. The government has decided to deploy an additional 1,600 paramilitary personnel in the violence-hit areas, with 10 more companies placed on high alert. Currently, 800 troops are already on the ground, maintaining vigilance as the situation remains tense. BSF has also deployed seven companies to assist in restoring order. The deployment comes after a high-level meeting involving the Union Home Secretary, West Bengal's Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police. Both central and state governments have agreed to take all necessary steps to control the unrest. The situation in areas like Shamsherganj remains critical. Shops and homes have been vandalized, with reports of attempted arson. Many local residents are living in fear, and several buildings have been rendered uninhabitable. Continuous flag marches by central forces are being carried out to maintain peace. The Kolkata High Court has taken cognizance of the matter and issued directives for swift action against rioters. The administration is making efforts to restore normalcy, but the atmosphere remains tense, and locals continue to express fear over further violence.
