18 kg heroin seizure: Accused sent to five-day police custody
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force has got a five-day police custody of Hira Singh, who was nabbed with 18 kg of heroin yesterday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Hira, a resident of Khehra village, had received the consignment on April 8.
“The entire consignment was smuggled on a single day. His accomplice Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Daoke village located near the International Border, had retrieved the consignment from Muhawa village and stashed it in gunny bags at Hira’s house,” said a senior official.
He added that Hira had shared the location with Pakistan-based drug smuggler Billa, who used hexacopter to deliver drugs.
Gurpreet Singh, Superintendent of Police, ANTF, said they had launched a manhunt to arrest Kulwinder. He said both the accused were big fish.
Sources in the ANTF said Hira was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers for the past one year. His cellphone has been sent for forensic examination.
