PGI prof booked on student’s complaint
The police have registered a case against a professor of Rohtak PGIDS on the basis of a complaint lodged by a student of MDS course at the institute.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 127 (2) (wrongful confinement) against Dr Ravinder Solanki.
A third-year MDS student, Dr Jishnu Mohan, has also submitted a representation to the institute authorities, alleging mental harassment, verbal abuse and physical assault by the professor.
The complainant has alleged that the professor consistently abused his authority and forced him to serve as his personal driver, making him drop his children at playschool and collect food for his family.
The professor also allegedly asked him to procure alcohol for him and attend to his personal needs, the complainant added. “The continuous exploitation and fearmongering have led to severe mental trauma and his actions have instigated suicidal thoughts," states the student-cum-resident doctor.
On the other hand, Dr Solanki has refuted the allegations as false and baseless. A committee has been constituted to inquire into the matter. However, the complainant has expressed dissatisfaction with the action being taken on his complaint and written to the Chief Minister and other top functionaries of the state, alleging bias in the inquiry.
He has demanded re-constitution of the inquiry committee with impartial members and include a representative of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) therein, an investigation into the alleged procedural lapses, preservation of the material evidence, ensuring the protection of witnesses and victims and appointment of a neutral external monitoring body or judicial officer to oversee the integrity of the process being followed.
Meanwhile, the RDA working committee has written to the authorities of Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, demanding a public written apology from the professor and disciplinary action against him.
On the other hand, a number of resident doctors and interns of PGIDS have demanded the suspension of the said professor with immediate effect.
