‘Absolutely no sense…’: Aaron Finch lambasts RCB’s strategy, Mark Waugh agrees
New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL 2025 season has had a mixed start. They’ve won three games and lost two, currently placing them fourth in the standings. Their most recent match was a six-wicket home loss against the Delhi Capitals.
Tim David, a prominent Australian batsman, has been a crucial contributor to the team’s success, consistently delivering impactful performances in the latter stages of matches. His form suggests he is currently playing very well.
David’s impressive performance in four innings for RCB includes 92 runs at a 195.74 strike rate, averaging 92 runs per innings. Despite this strong form, he has batted at positions seven and eight in the order, a decision that puzzles former Australian T20I captain and David’s teammate, Aaron Finch.
“Can anyone please explain why Tim David has batted at number 8 twice in the IPL this season? Makes absolutely no sense to me…give your most destructive players more time!” Finch posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Mark Waugh, a former Australian cricketer, suggested a possible reason for David Warner’s lower batting position, implying a strategic role for the player.
“Totally agree Finchy. He must have some input into the decision. As a player he is selling himself short just pigeonholing himself as a only just a late order hitter. Not sure why as a batsman with great power and ability that you wouldn’t want to develop your game further,” Waugh wrote.
David, a specialist finisher in cricket, recently discussed his batting position.
“When you’re batting in my role, you don’t get a go in every game. It marginalises my role. I’ve gone from batting No. 6 in other teams – and higher if you have a good start – to No. 7 or 8. I almost just bat in the last couple of overs,” David was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
