Israel destroys Hamas terror tunnel near kindergarten, school in…
Tel Aviv: Golani Brigade forces have discovered and destroyed an underground terror tunnel system built by Hamas militants in Rafah. According to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson, the tunnel system was located within a former kindergarten compound, approximately 100 meters from a school.
During a routine operation troops found a shaft that led to a booby-trapped underground passage that connected to a main Hamas route. This passage stretched several meters. The tunnel was investigated by combat engineers from the Yahalom unit and later destroyed.
“Hamas systematically violates international law by cynically exploiting civilian institutions and using the population as human shields for terrorist activities,” IDF said.
A recently discovered tunnel in southern Gaza follows reports that Israeli forces have destroyed only a fraction of the region’s tunnels, leaving many, including those used for smuggling from Egypt, still operational.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) recently discovered a kilometer-long tunnel network in the central Gaza Strip’s Netzarim Corridor. This discovery followed the IDF’s announcement of the killing of Ahmad Iyad Muhammad Farhat, a Hamas sniper commander, in Rafah.
Israeli forces are conducting ongoing military operations in Rafah, targeting Hamas infrastructure, both surface and underground.
