Kisan mazdoor committee elects women office-bearers for dist units

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), Punjab, under the leadership of state leader Sarwan Singh Pandher and district president Ranjit Singh Kaler Bala, held zonal-level elections for women’s units in the Baba Bakala, Tarsikka and Tangra zones of Amritsar district.

The elections took place in various villages including Kaler Ghuman for Baba Bakala zone and at Gurdwara Dera Bhagtan for Tarsikka and Tangra zones. Women farmers and labourers from surrounding villages actively participated in the formation of zonal committees.

Speaking on the occasion, farmer leaders Kanwardeep Saidolehal, district leader Sukhdev Singh Chatiwind and Balwinder Singh Romana Chak emphasised on the importance of women’s leadership in the ongoing farmers’ and labourers’ struggle. “The initiative aims to bring more women to the forefront of leadership. Women have always played a pivotal role in people’s movements,” they said.

The KMSC leaders strongly opposed the government’s move toward full privatisation of the power sector, including the installation of prepaid ‘smart meters’ in villages. “We will resist the implementation of prepaid meters in any village at all costs,” they declared.

They also criticised the government’s campaigns around ‘education revolution’ and ‘war on drugs’, calling them hollow slogans designed to distract the public from real issues. “The people are deeply upset with the Punjab Government for betraying the promises made during the farmers’ movement under pressure from the Centre,” they added, pointing out that leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP are now facing tough questions during their visits to the villages.

The leaders announced that the next women’s zonal election will be held in Mehta zone on April 12.

Women elected in Tarsikka zone: Kulwinder Kaur (Kotkhaira), Baljeet Kaur (Chatiwind), Paramjeet Kaur (Sadhpur), Rajinder Kaur (Bulhara), Jasbir Kaur (Bulhara), Harpreet Kaur (Tarsikka), Manjeet Kaur (Taharpur), Ninder Kaur (Bhattike), Balbir Kaur (Bhilowal), Gurmeet Kaur (Chugawan), Daljeet Kaur (Saidolehal), Kanwaljeet Kaur (Taharpur).
