Indore Dietician Shares Key Diet Tips To Prevent Dehydration, Heatstroke

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With rising temperatures across the city, summer brings not just sweat and sun but also health challenges. like dehydration, heatstroke and skin breakouts.

To tackle these effectively, certified dietician Varsha Chouhan from Indore shares essential dietary tips that can help people of all age groups stay fit, cool and energised.

Hydration is non-negotiable. Drink at least 3 to 4 litres of water daily. Along with plain water, include hydrating drinks like coconut water, buttermilk and unsweetened lemon water to replenish lost electrolytes and keep the body cool.

Water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes and oranges not only hydrate but, also provide essential vitamins and antioxidants. "These foods help regulate body temperature and re-duce chances of heatstroke and skin issues," says Chouhan.

Add berries like straw-berries and blueberries to your diet-they are rich in antioxidants that protect your skin from sun damage. Include yogurt for its cooling effect and gut-friendly probiotics, which help improve digestion a common issue in summer.

Chouhan also recommends using mint in chutneys, drinks, or salads for its refreshing and cooling properties. Leafy greens, especially spinach, are important but should be lightly cooked to avoid bloating.

Avoid oily, spicy and processed foods as they generate internal heat and can trigger breakouts. Instead, go for light meals, seasonal salads and herbal teas.

"Summer wellness starts in the kitchen," says Varsha Chouhan. "With simple food choices, we can protect ourselves from common seasonal problems while feeling fresh and active," These practical diet changes can help Indore residents beat the heat naturally while nourishing the body from the inside out.

Beating the heat

In summer, loo (heat stroke) or nose bleeding is common due to excessive heat. For instant relief from nose bleeding, tilt the head forward and pinch the nose gently, applying a cold compress on the nose or back of the neck helps constrict blood vessels.

For heat stroke, move to a cool place, sip cool water with a pinch of salt and sugar, or drink lemonade or buttermilk. Applying onion juice behind ears or on soles is an age-old remedy.

Avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated and wear loose cotton clothes. These immediate home remedies provide quick comfort during hot summer days.
