Navi Mumbai Crime: 33-Year-Old Man Arrested With ₹2.4 Lakh MDMA Tablets Near Seawoods Nexus Mall; African Supplier Absconding
Navi Mumbai: A 33-year-old youth was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) on Tuesday night near Seawoods Nexus Mall in Sector-42 for allegedly attempting to sell narcotic substances. The accused, identified as Abhishek Arup Chaudhary, was found in possession of MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy) tablets worth approximately Rs 2.4 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off that a man from Nerul Sector-2 would be arriving near the mall to sell drugs, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Nigade laid a trap at the location.
Around 9 p.m., the accused arrived at the spot and was immediately apprehended. “Upon searching him, we found 24 orange MDMA tablets weighing a total of 11.32 grams,” a police officer from ANU said.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against Chaudhary under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he was placed under arrest. During interrogation, Chaudhary revealed that he had received the tablets from an African national known only by the name "Jeku."
Police have now launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend the alleged supplier. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network involved in the trafficking and distribution of synthetic drugs in the region.
