West Bengal School Summer Vacation 2025 Prepones Due To Severe Heatwave; Check Details
WB School Summer Vacation 2025: The West Bengal government has decided to advance the summer break for schools from April 30, 2025, due to the extreme heat and humidity prevailing in the state. This decision, however, will not be implemented in schools that are situated in the hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
Summer Break Brought Forward from Regular May Calendar
Generally, the summer holidays in West Bengal start from the second week of May. But because of the prevailing heatwave, the state has proceeded with early precautionary measures.
Commenting on the situation, Education Minister Bratya Basu stated, "Due to the extreme heat conditions, summer vacations had been advanced in past years also. We will decide on the period (of vacation) after assessing the situation at an appropriate time," as reported by news agency PTI.
Official Notification and Staff Guidelines
According to the School Education Department's notification, both teaching and non-teaching staff will also get leave during this time as a special case, until schools resume. This will be subject to further directions from competent authorities.
Extra Classes After Reopening
To make up for the learning loss due to the premature shutdown, schools will need to schedule additional classes upon reopening. The measures are designed to prevent learners from lagging behind due to the reduced learning schedule.
On April 3, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the summer vacation to start from April 30. The education department of West Bengal is likely to issue the final notification on the schedule soon.
Students and parents are requested to remain in contact with their respective schools to get information regarding the vacation timeline and reopening dates in a timely manner.
