Whitney Houston-starrer ‘The Bodyguard’ remake is officially in the works

A remake of the iconic 1992 romance drama flick The Bodyguard is officially underway. Warner Bros. Studio has announced that Sam Wrench, well known for directing live music documentaries like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish: Live At The O2 and more, will helm this project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Abrams, who penned the script for Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, will work on the screenplay for the remake. No other details, including cast information, have been revealed yet.
Initially helmed by Mick Jackson, The Bodyguard follows Rachel Marron, played by Whitney Houston, an actress-musician, whose constant annoyance by a stalker leads her manager to higher former Secret Service bodyguard Frank Farmer, Kevin Costner. Rachel and Frank’s relationship crosses professional boundaries as they both develop feelings for each other. The film’s ending is bittersweet with Rachel performing a cover of Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You – which, off-screen, translated into one of Houston’s most popular vocal performances, topping charts worldwide, and remains a timeless musical piece.
Gary Kemp, Bill Cobbs, Ralph Waite, Tomas Arana, and Michele Lamar Richards were also featured in the film. The Bodyguard also marked Houston’s film debut.
The original flick was penned by Lawrence Kasdan, best known for his work on the Star Wars franchise, while Alan Silvestri, the musical maestro who created the Avengers theme, as well as Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, and The Polar Express among others, created the score for The Bodyguard.
