Gujarat Titans Hit Hard: Star All-Rounder Leaves Team Mid-IPL 2025
High-flying Gujarat Titans have been dealt a blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as star all-rounder Glenn Phillips has exited the squad.
Although an official confirmation is awaited, reports suggest that the New Zealand cricketer may have suffered an injury, prompting his sudden departure. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to provide a formal update soon.
Injury Cloud Over Phillips
While the exact nature of Phillips' exit remains unclear, it is believed that he sustained an injury during Gujarat's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. Notably, he hasn't played a single game for the Titans this season, further fueling speculation about his fitness status.
Champions Trophy Heroics
The 28-year-old all-rounder was a key figure for New Zealand in the recent Champions Trophy, held across Pakistan and Dubai. His sharp fielding and athletic catches were among the tournaments highlights. Phillips’ absence will undoubtedly be felt by Gujarat, especially given his recent form and versatility.
Replacement Yet to Be Named
As of now, the Gujarat Titans management has not announced any replacement. With Shubman Gill’s side set to face Lucknow Super Giants in their upcoming fixture, all eyes will be on the team’s next move to fill the gap left by Phillips' exit.
Gujarat Titans have released a statement saying, "Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery."
Currently, Gujarat Titans have only five overseas players in their lineup — Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat. With the IPL allowing each team to have up to eight foreign players, the Titans still have the option to add three more international names to strengthen their squad.
GT IPL 2025 squad: Shubman Gill (c), Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, Arshad Khan, Jayant Yadav.
