MS Dhoni scripts HISTORY, becomes first player in the world to achieve THIS feat

New Delhi: MS Dhoni added another memorable chapter to his legendary career, returning as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a must-win showdown against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in the 2025 IPL.

MS Dhoni captained the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a third time, resuming the role he held from 2008 to 2021. He briefly relinquished the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022, but reassumed it mid-season. Dhoni led CSK through the 2023 season before stepping down and appointing Ruturaj Gaikwad as his successor for the 2024 campaign.

The team’s star batter suffered an injury, forcing them to withdraw from the remainder of the competition. Dhoni has consequently reassumed the captaincy.

MS Dhoni has set a new record as the oldest captain in IPL history, becoming the first to lead a team after age 42. While other players, including Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, and Rahul Dravid, have captained IPL teams in their 40s, Dhoni surpasses them all.

MS Dhoni shares the record for most successful IPL captain with Rohit Sharma, each having led their teams to five championship titles. Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings won in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. He holds the IPL record for most games led and most games won as captain, and has led a team to the IPL final a record nine times.
