2 hurt as signage pillar falls on car amid thunderstorm
A severe thunderstorm hit Gurugram at around 6.30 pm on Friday evening, leading to road accidents, and the falling of trees and electric poles in various areas.
In one such incident, a big signage pillar on the Dwarka Expressway fell on to moving traffic. A car got stuck under the pillar, causing two occupants of the car to be seriously injured.
Passers-by stopped their cars and rescued the victims, admitting them to a hospital.
The incident caused a traffic jam on Dwarka Expressway. A police team reached the spot to manage traffic. The injured have not been identified so far. The car was smashed in the accident.
The expressway frequently witnesses heavy traffic jams in the evenings.
Trees uprooted, blackouts in city
The storm caused power outages, and windows and doors were witnessed rattling.
At many places, hoardings fell and trees were uprooted due to the strong storm. A tree was uprooted near the T-point of sectors 21 and 22 during the storm, and two cars were stuck under the tree.
Traffic was disrupted and a police team reached the spot to manage the situation.
An electric pole was uprooted near Kendriya Vidyalaya on Delhi Road, causing power outages in surrounding areas, including Sector 14.
