Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Chargesheet Reveals Intruder Hid For Hours, Kareena Kapoor’s Statement Highlights Attack Aftermath
Mumbai: In the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the Bandra police submitted the chargesheet in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Bandra, on April 8. The chargesheet stated that 111 witnesses were examined and the statements of 48 witnesses were recorded.
It revealed that the accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, 30, spent almost an hour inside the actor’s Satguru Sharan building and later hid for another hour in a neighbouring building Bharati Villa. A copy of the chargesheet is with FPJ.
Kareena Kapoor, in her statement to the Bandra police, said that Saif, whose clothes were blood-soaked when he entered the 12th-floor room – where they had run after witnessing the stabbing – was searching for something to counterattack the intruder. However, she persuaded him to rush to the hospital, saying, “Yeh sab chhod do, neeche chalo, hospital jaate hain” (Leave all this, let’s go down and go to the hospital).
Kapoor, who had left her house at 7.30pm, had gone to Rhea Kapoor’s residence for work. She returned at 1.20am and first checked on her son Taimur in his bedroom. She then went to Jeh’s room and saw him sleeping, with his nanny Junu resting near his bed. Kareena had just entered her bedroom and was about to sleep when Junu rushed in, saying a man had entered Jeh’s bedroom and was demanding money.
Kareena and Saif rushed to Jeh’s room, where they saw a man in a black T-shirt standing next to Jeh’s bed. When Saif confronted the man, the intruder attacked him.
“I then yelled at Eliamma to take Jeh out of the bedroom,” Kareena stated. She, the help, and Jeh went to the 12th floor, where Saif arrived a few minutes later, covered in blood. Kareena saw him searching for something to defend himself, but she was more concerned about his injuries.
They all went to the ground floor while the house staff began searching for the intruder. Saif, Taimur, and their helper Hari took an auto to Lilavati Hospital. Kareena followed and reached the hospital a few hours later, by which time Saif had been admitted.
According to the chargesheet, Saif stated, “That evening, I had dinner with my sons around 7.30pm. At 10pm, I went to my bedroom. My wife arrived home around 1.30am. Around 2am, while we were sleeping, Jeh’s nanny came to our door shouting that a man with a knife had entered Jeh’s room.”
Saif further stated that the altercation began when he confronted and embraced the accused. The accused stabbed him with both hands, each holding a knife, inflicting injuries on Saif’s neck, back, hands, chest, and legs. When nanny Geeta tried to intervene, the accused attacked her as well. Saif then pushed the attacker, causing him to fall.
Saif and Geeta exited the room, and by then, Jeh and the other nannies had come out. They locked the room from outside. The intruder couldn’t be found despite efforts to locate him. Kareena then insisted they go downstairs. As Saif was bleeding heavily, the staff stopped an auto. Taimur was adamant, saying “I will go with Papa,” so a staff member Hari accompanied them to Lilavati Hospital. Saif was wearing a kurta and pyjama.
The chargesheet further revealed that the accused had been near the Satguru building since 3pm. He did recce between 3pm and 6.45pm on January 15. The CCTV footage shows him walking toward the Manohar building around that time. At 6.45pm, he was seen at the back of the actor’s building. At 6.59pm, CCTV footage showed him climbing the Bharati Villa building. He later entered the actor’s building via Bharati Avenue.
