Nainar Nagendran Set To Take Charge As Tamil Nadu BJP President, Succeeds Annamalai

Tamil Nadu BJP President: Senior BJP leader and Tamil Nadu MLA Nainar Nagendran is all set to become the new President of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His nomination for the post was accepted unanimously by the party and an official announcement is expected on Saturday evening.

Nagendran, who was the sole candidate to file his nomination, will be taking over the reins from K Annamalai, whose tenure has been marked by bold political maneuvers and an aggressive outreach strategy, as per reports.

From AIADMK Loyalist To BJP Torchbearer

Nagendran, a veteran politician and current MLA from Tirunelveli, switched allegiance from the AIADMK to the BJP in 2017. Since joining the saffron party, he has emerged as a prominent face, known for his firm stance and growing popularity in southern Tamil Nadu.

His appointment is being seen as a move to further consolidate the BJP’s base in the region.

Annamalai: The ‘Singham’ Politician

Outgoing BJP chief Annamalai, a former IPS officer known for his bold and unconventional political style, made a mark with initiatives like the En Mann, En Makkal padayatra, which covered all assembly constituencies of the state.

His tenure drew both admiration and criticism, but undeniably expanded the BJP’s visibility and presence in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the appointment of TN BJP chief comes at the crucial time ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026.
