Officials visit Sirsa mandis as wheat season begins
As the wheat procurement season begins in Sirsa district, government officials are conducting inspections at mandis and procurement centres to ensure smooth operations and availability of basic facilities for farmers and labourers.
On Thursday, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) Arpit Sangal, Rajendra Kumar, Paras Bhagoria, City Tehsildar (CTM) Yash Malik, and District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) Mukesh Kumar visited various mandis and purchase points. During their visits, they interacted with farmers, labourers, and commission agents to assess the on-ground situation and instructed staff to maintain efficiency, cleanliness and timely payments.
By Wednesday, the district had procured 2,384 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat—2,265 MT by HAFED and 119 MT by the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation. Mustard procurement stood at 45,137 MT, with 25,220 MT purchased by HAFED and 19,917 MT by the Corporation.
In Dabwali, SDM Arpit Sangal visited the mandi and nearby godowns at Chautala and Abubshahar. He reviewed the arrangements and encouraged farmers to bring dry crops that meet the required moisture standards to avoid rejection or delays.
SDM Rajendra Kumar visited mandis in Sirsa and Ding. He monitored wheat and mustard procurement and directed officials to ensure adequate availability of gunny bags (bardana). He also emphasised the need for quick and transparent weighing and payment procedures to prevent long wait times for farmers.
In Ellenabad, SDM Paras Bhagoria and DFSC Mukesh Kumar reviewed arrangements and spoke with farmers, workers and commission agents. Concerns were raised regarding water, electricity and security. Commission agents requested better security, prompting the SDM to promise increased patrolling and prompt redressal of issues.
CTM Yash Malik visited the Kalanwali mandi, where he examined the token system and gave instructions to avoid delays in token issuance. He also stressed the need for uninterrupted electricity and adequate storage facilities such as tarpaulins to accommodate rising wheat arrivals in the coming days.
Market Committee Secretary Virender Mehta assured that all essential arrangements were in place. He noted that last year, 18 lakh quintals of wheat were procured in Sirsa and the figure may exceed 20 lakh this year due to higher crop production.
