‘Chhaava’ OTT release: When and where to watch Vicky Kaushal’s historical flick

Less than two months after its Valentine’s Day theatrical release, Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava will head to the OTT space. Streaming giant Netflix announced the arrival of the Laxman Utekar directorial on their platform, a thrill for those who missed the action-filled historical flick on the big screens.
An adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the film chronicles the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj as he rises to power after the death of his father Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to fight against the Mughals. Aside from Kaushal, the film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta.
The film received mixed reviews, although the positives slightly outweighed the negatives. Pooja Biraia Jaiswal of THE WEEK wrote, “The film showcases regality and grandeur, adrenaline-pumping action sequences and punchy dialogues, but interestingly, it does all of that and more, while ensuring it doesn't lose track of the plot and the narrative that runs beautifully across all its frames. This is a good watch, whether you're a history fan or not.”
Controversy surrounding the film ensued days after its release as the Chhaava filmmakers were blamed for the Nagpur riots that intensified on March 17. Right-wing groups sought the demolition of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who was responsible for the death of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj portrayed by Kaushal. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis placed blame on Chhaava for triggering the riots, and during his Assembly address, said, "Chhaava movie has ignited people’s anger against Aurangzeb. Still, everyone must keep Maharashtra peaceful."
