Who Is Dayan Krishnan? Senior Advocate Likely To Head NIA's Prosecution In Case Against 26/11 Attack Accused Tahawwur Rana
New Delhi: The flight carrying 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana will land in Delhi on Thursday afternoon. Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan will reportedly lead the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA's) prosecution against Rana.
The Pakistani-origin terrorist was extradited from the United States. A special chartered flight carrying the 64-year-old left the US on Wednesday. Rana will now be reportedly taken into custody by the NIA.
Who Is Dayan Krishnan?
Krishnan is the country's one of the top criminal lawyer. He is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court. Krishnan is a graduate of India’s first national law school in 1993. Notably, he was among the first batch of the law school, according to Can Foundation.. Krishnan reportedly set up his own practice in 1999. He worked on high-profile cases, including the 2001 Parliament attack and the Kaveri River water dispute. He also worked with the 1999 Justice JS Verma Commission.
He was the special public prosecutor in the December 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case, reported canfoundation.in. In the past also, Krishnan appeared for the Centre, NIA and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was the CBI prosecutor in the alleged DDA scam.
Rana has been charged under multiple sections, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India, murder, forgery, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. According to reports, Rana will also be taken to Mumbai. However, Mumbai Police has not received any official communication in this regard.
Rana was officially handed over to the NIA on April 8 in California.
Meanwhile, the Central Government has appointed advocate Narender Mann as the Special Public Prosecutor for the 26/11 trial.
