Civic body opens Rs 1.61crore state-of-art table tennis facility

The Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, on Wednesday inaugurated the state-of-the-art table tennis facility at Rakh Bagh Sports Complex here. The project cost of Rs 1.61 crore was funded by Ludhiana Smart City Limited (LSCL).

MC officials while highlighting key features of the facility said it had 3,800 sq ft area with six tables for playing on the ground floor and 7,000 sq feet area with 12 tables on the first floor. They said both halls were fully air-conditioned to ensure a comfortable playing environment. The visitor’s gallery has a seating capacity of 150 persons, allowing spectators to enjoy matches. The initiative was a part of enhancing sports infrastructure in the city, promoting table tennis and offering a world-class facility for players and spectators alike.

The officials said the objective was to provide a world-class infrastructure for table tennis enthusiasts and promote sports development in Ludhiana. They hoped that local players, aspiring athletes and sports enthusiasts would be the beneficiaries. Development of the sports facility was a major step in enhancing sports facilities under the Smart City initiative.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who went to inaugurate the project, also inspired the youth to get themselves involved in sports activities to channelise their energy. He hoped that the drug menace could be eradicated if the youth take part in sports activities.

He congratulated Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal and all MC staff for completing the table tennis complex project within the deadline. He hoped that the newly created sports infrastructure would be helpful in nurturing new national and international players. He asked the players to make optimum use of the facility.
