Edu directorate directs teachers to update diary on MIS portal

Aiming to improve monitoring in government schools, the Directorate of School Education has asked government school teachers to update the teacher diary on MIS (Management Information System) portal of the Education Department.

The decision to file teacher diary on the MIS portal was implemented from April 9. Earlier, the teachers used to fill their diaries manually.

While department officials believe that the move would help improve monitoring in government schools, the decision hasn’t gone well with the teachers and they have expressed resentment with the directives.

In a letter issued, the directorate has mentioned that the teachers’ diary is being made available through the MIS portal and the teachers must update their diaries regularly even if they are on election duty, exam duty, training or attending workshop.

The school heads have been directed to issue completion certificate every month stating that all the teachers have submitted their diaries online. The district-level officials have been provided dashboards to check the progress.

Amit Chhabra, spokesman of Rajkiya Prathmik Shikshak Sangh, said, “Orders have been issued in which all teachers have been asked to update their diaries on MIS. This is not possible at all in practical terms. Primary teachers are already overburdened. A primary teacher who has three or five classes will not be able to update the diaries of all the subjects on MIS. This will also waste a lot of time. The order should be withdrawn.”

Meanwhile, District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) Sudhir Kalra said, “The teachers have been told to plan their teaching schedule and fill the diary regularly. Otherwise, departmental action will be taken. Earlier, the teachers used to be provided manual diaries, but a number of teachers used to keep their diaries pending. And only during school visits, officials were able to check the diaries. But in the new arrangement, the teachers have been told to fill the diaries online and it will help officials in increasing monitoring of the activities in the schools.

“Since the planner will be submitted online, the officials visiting schools will be able to verify if the schedules and information being fed online is being followed or not. The teacher’s diary option on the MIS portal has been activated today and the teachers have been told to start updating their diaries regularly. The teachers can update the diaries easily through their mobile phones and if they face any difficulties, they can raise the matter and efforts will be made to resolve the issue,” he added.
