Sachdeva terms fish market video misleading
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday strongly condemned Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for reposting a video featuring unidentified individuals, alleging that the act has disturbed the social fabric of the Capital.
Addressing a press conference along with Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Roy and Delhi BJP Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Sachdeva said the video shared by the MP on social media platform X was irresponsible and possibly aimed at diverting attention from the internal crisis within her party in Bengal. He further claimed that the act amounted to “criminal negligence.”
“It is unfortunate that instead of filing a police complaint, she chose to spread sensationalism online. This clearly shows the lack of seriousness about her role as a MP,” said Sachdeva.
He said the video’s reference to the removal of fish markets was misleading, stating that the markets in question have been in existence for nearly six decades and are legally allotted by the Delhi Development Authority.
“Most of the shopkeepers are Hindus, active in local community events, and adhere to all cleanliness norms. These fish shops are essential to the local population and are supported by BJP workers in the area,” he said.
Accusing Mahua Moitra of running a campaign to malign the BJP, Sachdeva urged the Delhi Police to not only take action against the individuals involved in the video but also to investigate the MP for amplifying the content without verification.
MLA Shikha Roy echoed his sentiments, saying CR Park is a symbol of communal harmony where people from North India and other regions come together to celebrate Bengal’s culture, particularly during Durga Puja. “The fish market here is fully legal and integral to the locality. Any attempt to threaten or remove these vendors will be strongly opposed,” she said.
Kapoor said Delhi represents the cultural unity of India, and every community has the right to practice its traditions without fear. “Fish vendors in CR Park must be able to do business here with the same dignity and safety as they would in Kolkata,” he said.
The BJP has called for strict action to maintain communal peace and to prevent what it termed as “irresponsible political provocation.”
