ABVP protests ‘anti-student’ policies at Delhi University

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a massive protest on Wednesday at the Faculty of Arts, Delhi University, against what it termed as the university administration’s “anti-student and negligent policies”. Following the demonstration, an ABVP delegation submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, pressing for immediate resolution of key student-related issues.

During the protest, ABVP raised several critical demands, including the full implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), inclusion of the research year (fourth year) in undergraduate programmes, adoption of a ‘one course, one fee’ policy for postgraduate programmes, transparency in admission processes, implementation of a centralised hostel allotment system, increased scholarships for SC/ST/OBC students and the establishment of mindfulness centres to support student mental health.

Delhi ABVP state secretary Sarthak Sharma said, “The administration of DU has completely turned anti-student. The university continues to exploit students through its indifferent and inconsistent policies. Even after years of NEP being introduced, the university has failed to fully implement it, which is causing confusion and difficulties for students. Today’s protest was our way of strongly opposing these policies and demanding timely reforms through a formal memorandum to the VC.”

He further added, “ABVP has always stood by the students and will continue to fight for their welfare. We will not tolerate any policies that compromise student interests or hinder academic progress.”

The memorandum submitted by ABVP also emphasised the need for better hostel facilities and urged the administration to ensure equitable access and support services for students from marginalised communities.

The protest saw participation from a large number of students who echoed the sentiment of discontent, urging the university to act swiftly and responsibly.
