Jai Ram meets Gadkari, seeks widening of roads
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today called on Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and requested him to get roads in the state widened and improved as a majority of the population was dependent on road transport.
Thakur urged Gadkari that the Janjehli-Chail Chowk-Nagwan road in Mandi district be widened, keeping in view the dependence of a large population on it.
He expressed gratitude for various projects being run in Himachal Pradesh by the Central Government under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that it was with the help of liberal financial assistance under various centrally-sponsored schemes that several national highways and tunnels had been constructed in the state.
Gadkari assured Thakur of getting the roads widened under the CIRF as soon as possible. The Leader of the Opposition said that at present, the Central Government was providing full support for roads from national highway to in rural areas in the state. “A majority of the road construction work in Himachal is at present being undertaken with the help of Central government,” he added.
