Bhopal Man Held For Vehicle Theft Dies In Police Custody

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The 32-year-old man arrested with two others in a case of bike thefts died in custody of Hanumanganj police on Wednesday evening.

The man’s condition deteriorated and he collapsed while he was being taken to the court. Police rushed him to the JP Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Police officials said that accused was suffering from illness for long.

However, exact circumstances of his death will be ascertained after the post-mortem. According to reports, Hanumanganj police on Wednesday arrested Yuvraj Kewat (32) of Putlighar locality in Tila Jamalpura area along with his two aides Mahesh Baghel (22) and Raju Mandloi (23) of Sehore with nine stolen bikes.

Hanumanganj police station TI Awadhesh Singh Bhadoriya claimed that Yuvraj confessed stealing vehicles from Bhopal and selling it to his two aides.

Yuvraj’s kin also reached the hospital after receiving information and demanded a thorough investigation into his death. Police officials said Yuvraj had 13 cases registered against him at Hanumanganj and Tila Jamalpura police stations including that under Arms Act. Investigations revealed that Yuvraj was suffering from illness and was also addicted to drugs. Police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra said prima facie it appeared that he died due to illness.

However, a panel of doctors will perform autopsy with videography to ascertain the exact reason of his death. A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.
