Let's delve more into Priyansh Arya's cricket journey before making impact with his bat for the Punjab Kings.
Priyansh Arya's Domestic Career
Priyansh Arya first rose to prominence through his standout performances in the Delhi Premier League. Representing South Delhi Superstarz, he finished as the league’s top scorer in its inaugural season, amassing 608 runs in 10 innings. He began with an impressive 57 off 30 balls against Old Delhi 6, but it was his explosive 120-run knock off just 50 balls against North Delhi Strikers that grabbed major attention — especially after he smashed six sixes in a single over bowled by Manan Bharadwaj.
Arya continued his red-hot form in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, emerging as Delhi’s highest run-getter with 325 runs at a blistering strike rate of 176. His unbeaten 102 off 43 balls against Uttar Pradesh further solidified his reputation as a rising star. Recognising his potential, Punjab Kings secured his services for a hefty ₹3.8 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.
Early Life & Background
Priyansh Arya was born on 18 January 2001 in Delhi. Both his parents were school teachers. They noticed his passion for cricket early on and supported his dream. At the age of 10, he was enrolled at a cricket academy and began training under coach Sanjay Bharadwaj.
Priyansh Arya was in contention to be part of India’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 World Cup and potentially open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, he was deemed ineligible due to a specific BCCI regulation. As per the rule, a player must undergo an age verification test at the Under-16 level to be eligible for Under-19 cricket over the next two years. Unaware of this requirement, Arya had already completed his stint in Under-19 cricket by the age of 17, making him ineligible for World Cup selection. This setback delayed his progress, and it took him another three years to break into the Delhi senior team.
