Asset Mapping of Transmission Lines and EHT Substations Underway in the State
Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company (MP Transco) is currently carrying out asset mapping of its transmission lines and extra high tension (EHT) substations across the state. This initiative will make digital data of transmission elements available at a single click, while also helping minimize material management time and disruptions during emergencies.
Chief Engineer of MP Transco, Mr. R.K. Mishra, stated that this asset mapping work is being done for 27,900 kilometers of transmission lines and 416 substations in the state. He further informed that the work is being executed by M/s Cyber Swift, Kolkata, which is also responsible for software development and dashboard creation. The data is being stored in different modules for organized management. Through a mobile app, this information will be accessible to the transmission company’s line maintenance staff and substation in-charges.
Mapping Based on Survey of India Maps
Mr. Mishra said that the mapping of transmission elements is being done using Survey of India maps as the base, ensuring precise and authentic data.
Advanced GPS Technology
The advanced version of the GPS system—Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS)—is being used, allowing for mapping accuracy within a range of 1 centimeter to 1 meter.
Benefits of Asset Mapping:
With asset mapping, detailed information about the location and status of any transmission tower will be available immediately in case of any issues. The digitalization of all transmission elements will make it easier to maintain organized records, with access available via a mobile app. The mapping will also include records of land owned by the transmission company. A detailed dashboard will provide all necessary information with a single click. Knowing the details of required parts and equipment will help reduce the time taken for repairs and material arrangements.
Project Costing Rs. 15 Crores
Chief Engineer Mr. Mishra informed that in the first phase, M/s Cyber Swift, Kolkata, is carrying out asset mapping for 27,912 kilometers of transmission lines and 416 EHT substations in the state. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹15 crores. In addition to mapping based on Survey of India maps, the company is also responsible for surveying and software development.
