Farmers back changes
While seeds and pesticide producers and dealers have been protesting against amendments made to the Seeds and Insecticides Acts, farmers have come out in support of the government. The farmers have termed the amendments the need of the hour and said that they would stand with the government on this issue.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) spokesman Rakesh Bains said, “Fake and substandard seeds and pesticides are being sold in the market due to which farmers suffer heavy losses every year. In the absence of heavy penalty and punishment, the people involved were selling the poor quality products without trouble. Strict punishment against the people selling inferior products had been a long-pending demand of the farmers. The union has welcomed the amendments made by the government.”
“Except for increasing the fine and punishment, nothing has been changed in the Acts by the government. The producers and dealers who sell quality and genuine products shouldn’t be worried,” he added.
