‘Dehi’ showcases human emotions, AI at Rang Utsav
The state-level Rang Utsav, organised by Yuvaa Theatre in collaboration with the K L Saigal Memorial Trust, is celebrated annually on the birth anniversary of the legendary Shri K L Saigal. The festival presents selected Punjabi plays from across the state, offering theatre lovers here a chance to experience the best of Punjabi drama. This year’s Punjabi Natya Utsav began with a performance of writer Amarjit Grewal’s latest play ‘Dehi’, staged on Tuesday evening. The play was directed by Shri Rajwinder Samrala, vice-president of the Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy.
‘Dehi’ is a masterful exploration of human emotions, existential dilemmas and the evolving relationship between humanity and technology. The play delves deeply into the complexities of love, loss and the search for meaning in a world increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. The narrative, intimate and intricate, highlights the personal struggles of its characters while raising profound questions about existence, the commodification of emotions and the ethical implications of AI.
Each scene of the play was crafted, blending poetic dialogue with philosophical depth, providing a rich and thought-provoking experience for the audience. The play skilfully balances surreal elements with deeply human themes, particularly through characters such as Siddhartha, who faces grief; Amrita, whose visionary rebellion challenges the status quo; and Karuna, whose poignant self-awareness adds to the narrative’s emotional weight. — TNS
