IPL Playoff Hopes Fading? These 3 IPL Teams Have Been Major Flops
Two weeks into Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the tournament has already produced edge-of-the-seat excitement.
While teams like Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have impressed with dominant performances - Delhi Capitals (DC) even remaining unbeaten so far - some of the league's biggest names are struggling to find their rhythm.
For a few, playoff qualification is already looking like an uphill task.
Here's a look at three such teams whose playoff hopes are hanging by a thread:
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Last year's finalists, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), kicked off their campaign with a record-breaking total of 286 in their opening match. But since then, their performance has spiraled.
They've now lost four consecutive matches and sit at the bottom of the table. Both batting and bowling units have faltered badly, and nothing seems to be clicking. If this losing streak continues, Sunrisers Hyderabad's chances of making it to the playoffs could slip away completely.
2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a forgettable start this season. With just one win from four games, they are presently at the ninth spot with only 2 points. The team has struggled across departments - batting lacks intent, bowling lacks bite, and strategic calls haven't worked. If CSK doesn't bounce back soon, they might find themselves out of playoff contention much earlier than expected.
3. Mumbai Indians (MI)
The most successful team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, Mumbai Indians (MI), has also underwhelmed. With just one win in four matches, Mumbai Indians (MI) are currently placed eighth on IPL 2025 points table. Their net run rate is poor, and inconsistency in both batting and bowling has been costly. With tougher fixtures ahead, MI will need to regroup quickly or risk another disappointing campaign.
