CSK Skipper 5 Runs Shy Off Major ‘T20’ Feat: Details Inside
PBKS Vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has a chance of creating history in tonight's PBKS Vs CSK, IPL 2025 Match 22 fixture at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, as the opener is five runs shy off completing 5000 T20 runs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2020. The Maharashtra-based batter played only the last three matches in that season but left the management impressed with his antics. In 2021, he followed that up by winning the Orange Cap by scoring 635 runs, as CSK stormed to their 4th IPL title in UAE.
Since taking over the side's captaincy in 2024, Ruturaj has seen a slump in form, but beckons at the history gates, which he can well-and-truly achieve in the fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Ruturaj has so far played 70 matches in IPL, scoring 2501 runs with a strike rate of 138, including two centuries and 20 half-centuries. Despite having two fifties in the ongoing season, Gaikwad has not looked in his best form so far. He has scored 121 runs in four matches, and will be looking to get back among runs when CSK face PBKS.
Ashwin, Bhuvi Involved In Tightly-Knitted Contest
Ravichandran Ashwin is just two wickets away from becoming the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran off-spinner has picked up 183 wickets in 215 matches and needs two more to surpass Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who currently holds the third spot with 185 wickets in 179 matches. Ashwin will be aiming to achieve this milestone when CSK face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their upcoming match.
Ashwin, who made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009 and played for them till 2015, was bought back by the franchise in the IPL 2025 Player Auction for ₹9.75 crore.
