'Embarrassing' Numbers Reveal Rohit Sharma's Struggles In IPL 2025
Rohit Sharma's form in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been far from ideal. In the four matches played so far, the seasoned opener has struggled to make an impact with the bat, managing only 38 runs at a strike rate of 131.03. His lack of consistency has become a concern, especially for someone known for his ability to anchor innings and deliver match-winning performances.
This is a major dip compared to his last year's IPL performance, where he scored 417 runs in 14 matches, including a century and a half-century, with a strike rate of 150. The sharp contrast in numbers highlights the downward trend in his form this season.
As one of the most experienced players in the league, Rohit will be keen to bounce back and contribute meaningfully in the upcoming games. Both his team and fans will be hoping that a big knock is just around the corner.
Time for Restraint? Gavaskar on Rohit's powerplay approach
Rohit Sharma's early exits have been a major concern for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. In all four matches so far, the experienced opener has failed to stay at the crease beyond the powerplay, falling within the first six overs each time. His quick dismissals have put pressure on the rest of the batting lineup and affected MI's momentum at the top.
Speaking after the MI vs RCB clash on JioHotstar, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar shared his thoughts on Rohit's form.
"Over the next couple of games, they’ll be hoping for a solid knock. Even if he doesn’t get a big score immediately, if he can bat through the power-play into the 8th or 9th over and score a steady 30–40, that will help build confidence.
"But when he gets out in the powerplay, it hurts — whether it’s for Mumbai Indians, India, or any team he’s playing for. He has so much to contribute. I believe his shot selection needs a bit of tempering. You have to be aggressive and score as much as possible in the first six overs, but choosing the right risks is key. If he finds that balance, he’ll be back to scoring big runs again," said Gavaskar.
