'I'm Coming, Allah Kept Me Alive For A Reason': Sheikh Hasina Promises Justice For Awami League Killings In Bangladesh

New Delhi: In a social media interaction with grieving party families, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina shared her intention to return to the nation and seek justice for the killings of Awami League members. “Allah kept me alive for a reason,” Hasina said, adding that “the day will come” when the people targeting her party will be held accountable.

The Awami League chief, who is currently in India after being ousted by a nationwide uprising, gave these statements with her camera turned off, addressing the family members of slain party workers.

According to NDTV, Hasina said that Bangladesh has been transformed from a model of development to a “terrorist country,” where “Awami League, cops, lawyers, journalists, artists — everyone is being targeted.” She also accused the interim government of a media clampdown, adding, “Rapes, murders, dacoities, nothing can be reported. And if it is reported, the TV channel or newspaper will be targeted.”

Sheikh Hasina's Remarks On Muhammed Yunus

Criticising Muhammad Yunus, the interim government's chief advisor, Hasina said that he is “someone who never loved the people.” She added, “He loaned out small amounts at high interest rates and used the money to live lavishly abroad... Then developed a lust for power that is burning Bangladesh now." Hasina's remarks come amidst renewed political tensions, where the Bangladeshi interim government is seeking her extradition from India.

Sheikh Hasina Vows to Return To Bangladesh

During the social media interaction, Hasina also recounted the assassination of her family, including her father and Bangladesh’s first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “I lost my father, mother, brother, everyone in one day... Those who have committed these crimes must be punished. This is my pledge,” she said.

Responding to a supporter’s question about her well-being, she added, “I am alive, son.” When another supporter wished her a return to power, she replied, “He will. That’s why Allah has kept me alive. I am coming.”

The interim government in Bangladesh has urged India to restrain Hasina, accusing her of “inflammatory remarks” and attempting to “destabilise” Bangladesh.
