‘Phulrani’ Turns 70: Punekars Celebrate The Birthday Of Peshwe Park’s Iconic Toy Train (PHOTOS)

Pune's beloved toy train, Phulrani, turned 70 on Tuesday
Punekars came together to celebrate the milestone with great enthusiasm at Peshwe Park in Sadashiv Peth
To mark the occasion, a special birthday celebration was held at 11am with children in attendance. A cake-cutting ceremony was organised by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), led by Park Superintendent Ashok Ghorpade
Painted in vibrant hues of blue, red, yellow and green, Phulrani has remained a visual delight, continuing to attract children and adults alike
Over the decades, the train has evolved with the times. In 2011, the original engine and bogies were replaced due to wear and tear
A symbol of childhood joy for generations, Phulrani has been chugging along the same tracks since April 8, 1956, delighting visitors with its colourful charm and nostalgic appeal
Phulrani has remained a crowd-puller over the years. In the last financial year alone, it ferried 83,096 passengers—both young and old—generating a revenue of ₹12.41 lakh, according to PMC's Ashok Ghorpade
Seven decades on, Phulrani continues to be a treasured part of Pune’s cultural landscape—inviting laughter, nostalgia and wide-eyed wonder with every ride
